Kenyan Water & Utility startup HydroIQ has launched its Smart Billing app, which enables property managers and utilities to digitize their water metering, billing, payments and customer service without replacing their current infrastructure.
Founded in 2017 by Brian Bosire and Victor Shikoli as the world’s first virtual water network operator (VWNO), Hydrologistics Africa (HydroIQ), was voted Best IoT Solution at the 2018 AppsAfrica Awards and were selected for the Techstars Accelerator as the only African Startup in the first batch, and has since received funding from Techstars, Partech ventures and awarded Africa startup of the year.
HydroIQ, is building smart water grids using sensors, data analytics, mobile and online payments to bring transparency in access and distribution of water.
Globally, water stress has become a conversation that everyone must be concerned about. Our mission is to bring transparency in access and distribution of water.
“In most developing countries, water accounts for at least 11% of family income, yet availability is still big challenge. Close to 50% of water supplied gets lost before reaching the consumers due to leakages and unmetered consumption. Our mission os to bring visibility and transparency in access and distribution of water to those who need it.” ~ Brian Bosire, Co-founder & CEO of HydroIQ.
To address these water problems, HydroIQ developed solutions to make every drop count, by ensuring zero error metering, Transparent Billing and payments and powerful analytics from source to consumer. Since launch in mid 2018, more than 3M Litres of water has delivered through its network.
However, 90% of all the consumer water infrastructure still remains on manual metering, offline payments and highly opaque towards the consumers. Lack of transparency in water billing and consumption means poor customer service, high rates on non payments and unreliable supply and availability of water to households. Overall, the water sector lacks the right datasets to support transparent pricing and access to water.
With the launch of HydroIQ SmartBilling – A SaaS solution for water sector, We have once again positioned ourselves as the global leader in digitising the water sector and bringing it online. This perfectly complements our VWNO product launched in 2018, to digitize the water infrastructure.
Already, more than 13K households are in the pipeline pre-launch. We have partnered with leading real estate and water supply companies to introduce this solution to their clients.
COVID-19 has been an awakening instant for most businesses. The water sector is playing a significant role in combating its spread and effects. During this times, HydroIQ will offer their SmartBilling solution to select organisations with the goal of digitising their operations as part of our contribution to the fight against the pandemic.
“Our goal is to unlock the digital potential by bringing transparency in access and distribution of water across Africa, by taking advantage of online and mobile payments. “ ~ Brian Bosire , CEO & co-founder. “Making water data available is the first step towards understanding the global water demand trends and better avoid many more “day Zero’s” in future.” ~ Victor Shikoli, Co-founder & COO
